October 4th, 2021 - Burbot!!

We got to see a fish that we don't normally see within the Hammond River Watershed!

We've been busy electrofishing in the Kennebecasis River, as part of the Wolastoq Genomics Project, when we found this juvenile burbot! Burbot can occasionally be found at the confluence point of the Hammond and the Kennebecasis River; however, this was our staff's first time seeing one in person! These fish look like a cross between catfish and eel, and are very popular during ice fishing season.
