May 11th, 2022 - Smallmouth Bass Tagging Project
With funding from the NB Wildlife Trust Fund, our field staff will be doing a smallmouth bass tagging project this upcoming season to further our understanding of smallmouth bass population, distribution and behaviors in the Hammond River- of particular interest will be to determine their potential spatial overlap with salmonids.
While smallmouth bass are considered an invasive species, their presence in the Hammond River watershed has been established for decades, and our goal is to learn more about their movements throughout the watershed.
An exceptionally fun fish to angle, smallmouth bass fishing contributes to our local economy, but it takes many years for them to reach world class size!
